How We Screen Every Nanny

TrustLine, reference checks, driving records, CPR and more: the steps A Nanny Connection takes before a nanny meets your family.

Choosing someone to care for your children or run your household takes trust. Since 1996, A Nanny Connection has screened candidates carefully before introducing them to a family. Here is what that process includes.

  1. Experience and qualifications. We review each candidate's work history, especially experience in private homes, and the training that fits the position.
  2. Professional references. We verify at least three childcare or household-employment references, including former employers whenever possible, and pay close attention to reliability and how long each person stayed.
  3. TrustLine. TrustLine is California's background screening system for in-home childcare providers, run through the California Department of Social Services. It includes criminal-record checks through the California Department of Justice and the FBI.
  4. Driving record. For positions with driving, we review the candidate's DMV record.
  5. Work eligibility. We verify authorization to work in the United States.
  6. Health and safety. We review TB screening, Tdap and MMR vaccination records, and current CPR and First Aid certification.
  7. Personal interview. We talk with every candidate about communication, professionalism and how they would fit your household.

After that, we introduce candidates who match your family's needs, and we arrange paid trial days so you can see how a nanny works with your children before you decide.
